From Insight to Inspiration: Highlights from the Obstetrics & Gynecology Event at MSEC

Shanthi IT Solution Event Report. I didn’t expect to walk out of the college auditorium with a notebook full of little notes and a warm, stubborn grin  but that’s exactly what happened. Today’s Obstetrician and Gynecologist event at Meenakshi Sundarajan Engineering College felt less like a formal program and more like a gentle, urgent conversation about care, courage, and community.

Right from the start you could feel the heart behind the organization. The National Service Scheme (NSS) and Youth Red Cross (YRC) set the tone: practical, organized, and quietly compassionate. VINOTHKUMAR ASP MSEC ECE deserves real credit  the logistics were smooth, the schedules respected people's time, and the atmosphere felt inclusive. That kind of behind-the-scenes work matters more than most of us realize.

Our chief guest, Dr. Sharmila MS, OG, FICOG, RM, delivered the kind of talk that sticks. She didn’t just rattle off facts; she shared stories  brief, human moments from clinics and wards that illustrated why empathy matters in medicine. One anecdote about a young mother overcoming fear before delivery got a ripple of recognition across the room. You might not realize how much a single real life example can change the tone of a whole lecture  but it does.

Here are the highlights and what made them resonate:

Event highlights  by location

  • Main Auditorium (Keynote & Panel): Dr. Sharmila’s address and a short Q&A. Clear, honest talk about maternal health challenges and realistic steps students can take now to help.
  • Seminar Hall (Interactive Session): A hands-on demonstration of prenatal screening basics. Small groups, practical tips, and a chance to ask nitty-gritty questions.
  • Workshop Room (Skill Stations): Practical demonstrations  measuring fundal height, counseling role-plays, quick emergency-response drills. These were simple but powerful; students left with concrete skills, not just slides.
  • Campus Grounds (Awareness Booths): Pamphlets, quick health checks, and volunteers answering questions for passersby. A good reminder that outreach is as much about visibility as it is about information.

People who made it memorable

  • Dr. Sharmila MS, OG, FICOG, RM (Chief Guest): Honest, approachable, and full of practical wisdom. She balanced technical insight with stories that made complex topics human.
  • VINOTHKUMAR (ASP MSEC ECE): Kept things running on time and made the event feel professional without being stiff.
  • NSS & YRC Volunteers: They were everywhere — coordinating, explaining, sitting with nervous participants. Their energy was the glue.

Real moments that mattered

  • A student asked a blunt, nervous question about handling complications in resource-limited settings. Instead of brushing it off, Dr. Sharmila answered with a short playbook: triage, communication, and when to escalate. That exchange alone made the whole session worth attending.
  • At a skill station, two students practiced counseling expectant mothers. One of them had shaky hands at first; by the end she was calm and clear. That tiny arc — nervousness to confidence  felt emblematic of the event’s purpose.

Actionable points for students & organizers

  • Students: Before you graduate, practice one counseling conversation and one emergency drill with a peer. It’s quick, and you’ll remember more.
  • Organizers: Keep next events the same: mix keynote talks with hands-on stations. Add a short “what to practice this week” handout  people will actually do it.
  • Volunteers: Keep the outreach booths in high-traffic areas. A casual chat in between classes reaches people who wouldn’t attend a formal session.

Why this mattered
Let’s be honest: medical knowledge alone isn’t enough. Today’s event reminded all of us that healthcare is a practice of relationships  between clinicians and patients, between volunteers and communities, even between senior doctors and students. You leave with facts, yes, but more importantly you leave with a sense that you can act. That’s rare and it’s worth celebrating.

A final note of thanks
Shanthi IT Solution is proud to share this moment  thankful to Meenakshi Sundarajan Engineering College, to VINOTHKUMAR and the organizing teams at NSS and YRC, and especially to Dr. Sharmila for lending both expertise and heart. Events like this don’t just inform; they spark small, practical changes that add up.
